This reproduction is based on an actual Virginia Eastern Shore corner cupboard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. (See cat. No. 209 of American Furniture in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Late Colonial Period: The Queen Anne and Chippendale Styles, by Morrison H. Hechscher.) To be consistent with the original, which has been sawed in half at the waist, this version was built in two pieces. It features mitered sticking, hand carved moldings and fluting and single board shelves and backboards. To build the cupboard I relied on measurements, drawings and invaluable technical assistance from George Slack of Warrenton, VA.
