Inlaid Six Leg Table
While on a visit to the Winterthur Museum last Christmas, I saw a pair of corner tables and asked the docent to take a photo - the design was unusual and impressive in that the four legs were positioned two in front of the others - the center convex and side concave panels appealed to my love of curvature - the top was triangular in shape - this was my inspiration to create a table which is to have my completed 18th century design musical bracket clock case atop - after many years of searching, an outstanding musical bracket clock movement was found having 12 bells and playing 12 tunes - the maker, John Scott, London, dated c. 1770 - my table has the four front legs and two in rear - the inlay designs were drawn by my wife as well as the blind fretwork pattern and the center panels inlaid with satinwood - scorching was added for depth - the legs were also inlaid for additional interest - the top is a single piece of beautiful figured mahogany - there is a satinwood banding directly below the top which protrudes slightly giving, in my opinion, a decidedly French flavor to the piece - there is also a secret drawer to add a bit of mystery - the table was made from an old growth mahogany board and an additional thicker matching board for the legs
